My analysis of Goethe's work on light and colours

Goethe's edge spectra If the slit of the spectral apparatus is extremely widened or if a broad white strip is observed against black paper through a prism, as described by Goethe in the Didactic Part of his Theory of Color, the edge spectrum shown in Fig. 7a will be perceived. Goethe explains these edge spectra as being the shift of the objects from their real position caused by the effect of the prism. According to Goethe, the image is not shifted completely as if it in fact resisted the shift. As a result, a ”secondary image” is produced which slightly precedes the actual image. If the bright rectangle is viewed through a prism, it is shifted to the left by refraction, and the bright secondary image is superposed on the dark paper. Goethe propounds that bright on dark produces blue which changes into violet if the effect of the dark increases. On the right edge, the image of the dark surface shifts over the remaining bright ”principal image”. Dark on bright produces...

On the prismatic dispersion of white light in objective experiments

There are two things I know about God. One, that he is supremely parsimonious. Two, that he is inherently dichotomous. Knowing these two things about God has served me well over the years. For instance, I know that deep down everything about Universe is marvellously simple. So, if something appears to be too complicated, I know that it most likely is. The more complicated something appears to be, the most likely that it has a human origin and history. I know that I can account for all chromatic phenomena by using only three spectral colours: Blue , Green and Red . And when I say all chromatic phenomena, I'm including those that involve Yellow, Magenta and Cyan. I know that I can account for all subjective prismatic observations. To all intents and purposes, I have already done it. I know that I can account for all objective prismatic experiments by offering a coherent line of reasoning that will ultimately explain both the refractive and the diffractive prismatic phenomena....

(Or why a physicist should be acutely aware of the KISS paradigm and have the same degree of understanding as that of a sharpshooter) The KISS paradigm is an invention of the common thinker, but no physicist should ignore it on that basis. The KISS paradigm is fully defined by just one brief message: Keep it simple, stupid! That is certainly the most frugal yet the most nutritious piece of insightfulness that I'm personally aware of, so I will take this opportunity to reiterate it for those of us that need it more than anybody else. So, to myself, and to anyone else who needs to be at all times fully aware of the wisdom of KISS, let me say it once more before going any further: Hey, keep it simple, stupid!
